The inaugural USETDA 2011 conference, held in the Orlando area, concluded today at noon. With over 100 participants attending single session presentations, plenaries, workshops, poster sessions, vendor displays, and special activities, it was a tremendous experience for the organizers and participants alike. Those attending represented 3 countries (US, Canada, UK), and within the US, 30 states were represented (2/3 of all states). Roughly half the audience were from University Libraries and the other half were from the graduate schools.
The sessions were practical, informed and engaging. The networking was lively and extended. It was incredible to be part of the the learning and collaboration that persisted throughout the conference, and to see colleagues new to the field find a professional home. If you were unable to attend, I encourage you to review the materials which have been posted online at the USETDA 2011 conference proceedings page.
Also, be sure to make plans in your budget to attend next year’s conference (location and date to be announced), and stretch yourself by volunteering to be part of the new USETDA initiatives. We are seeking volunteers to assist with various committees: communications, resources, serving as a state representative, and conference planning (more information coming).
The USETDA board has a lot of great plans for USETDA in the coming years, but won’t be able to accomplish our goals without your involvement. If you want to learn more about USETDA, and/or become a member, we encourage you to do so. Explore our webpage and stay tuned for further details about future conferences and other member services.
We look forward to serving you in this next year and engaging you in making ETD operations more effective, efficient and enriching! Many thanks to all speakers, delegates, volunteers and sponsors for believing in the magic of ETDs!! Let’s all look forward to USETDA 2012 Conference – all bid proposals are welcome!
